Making the Most of Your Home Office | Print |
1. Unclutter your desk.
2. Don’t rely on your memory. Write it down.
3. Date everything. Periodically clean out files and always shred.
4. Use a file cabinet, folders, or an expandable file for papers.
5. Give your papers a home. Be systematic, and tackle the backlog.
6. Periodically clean out your paper files and expired files on your computer.
7. Protect yourself from identity theft. Shred all papers and also shred junk mail.
8. If you’re right handed, put your telephone and monitor on the left side, giving you space on your desk to write.
9. Put most often used items in your top desk drawer. Measure your dimensions and use trays or sturdy dividers to keep things neat and to prevent shifting.
10. Store bulk paper, phone books, etc. in containers separate from your desk. Keep your desk free for the necessities.
